We really are spoilt for choice in Sheffield when it comes to top-notch brunch spots, and one of the newest kids to join the brunch brigade is The Captain’s Cup, nestled snugly in the heart of Ecclesall Road. This independent cafe and bistro serves brunch from 9am ‘til 5pm and is bringing some exciting new riffs to the brunch staples. You’ll find a carefully chosen menu featuring all the favourites we know and love – Eggs Benedict, Avocado on Toast, Eggs Florentine – along with tasty salads, delicious handmade pastries from none other than Forge Bakehouse, 4eyespatisserie and We Luv Brownies, and also some incredible matcha pancakes with a sweet red bean paste. There’s undoubtedly a dish to please every palate, whether your vibe is sweet or savoury.
When we visited The Captain’s Cup we were in need of some good old fashioned comfort food and so chose the toasted brioche with pulled ham and garlic mushrooms. The mushrooms were wonderfully creamy and garlicky, and with just enough brioche to soak up any residual hangover it was the perfect choice to revive us.
Aside from the wonderful food, The Captain’s Cup take great pride in their coffee. Bringing together the very best of Sheffield’s independent coffee roasters including Forge Coffee and Smith Street, they use precise measurements to create the perfect cuppa every time. It doesn’t stop there either, as they also use single origins to make their own cold brews and filter coffee, and their milk is locally sourced from the ace folk at Our Cow Molly. And for those of you who are feeling adventurous, we’d certainly recommend that you treat yourself to one of their matcha or beetroot lattes. Lovely stuff.
The ethos at The Captain’s Cup is quite simply to bring the best of Sheffield’s independents together in one place. Pair that with attentive service and attractive prices and you have a real winner. So why not change up your brunch routine and try something a bit different? The Captain’s Cup is open every day from 9am ‘til 6pm. Treat yourself.
