Silversmiths Restaurant

We stopped by at Silversmiths Restaurant for a chat with General Manager, Emily, about Yorkshire hospitality, roast dinners and what we’ve all got to look forward to at Silversmiths in the upcoming months…

Silversmiths has become a firm favourite on the fine dining circuit in Sheffield, what do you think keeps people coming back for more?
Firstly, it’s amazing to think that Silversmiths has made its way from being a brand new restaurant launched by Gordon Ramsey to a fine-dining favourite. We firmly believe that the main reason people come back is because of our ‘Yorkshire Hospitality’. From locally-sourced and innovative cuisine, through to our laid-back atmosphere and our welcoming staff, our customers always comment on how relaxed yet first-class their experience has been.

Your menu is renowned for changing with the seasons and incorporating seasonal produce, which dishes are you most excited about for Autumn?
For starters, our ‘Seared Scallops with roe powder, milk poached Jerusalem artichoke, candied bacon and sorrel’. This takes a well-known, popular dish and gives it a twist, taking inspiration from Surf & Turf and using the best of our county’s fine produce.

For the main course, our ‘Marinated & rolled Lane End Farm roast beef with braised cabbage, potato puree, steeped sloes and pickled shallots’. We get the beast in whole from the wonderful Lane End Farm Trust and then the chefs butcher, marinate and roll it lovingly by hand. Accompanied by some real Autumn favourites also from Lane End, this dish takes home comforts to a whole new level.

And for dessert, we have our ‘Spiced Yorkshire parkin with textures of apple (toffee, candied & leather) cinnamon ice cream’. For us this pudding is the epitome of Autumn in Yorkshire, encapsulating Halloween, Bonfire Night and the clocks changing, as it brings warmth and a little spice for a sweet treat that pleases all.

In addition to your mouth-watering food menu, your cocktail menu is also inspired by God’s Own County. Which cocktail would you recommend for a pre-dinner tipple?
It’s a difficult choice and as we change our cocktails with the seasons too we could pick a new favourite every month! This month we’ve been very gin-orientated so I think we’d have to go with our ‘Elderflower and Gin Royale’. You can try some of our home-infused gins, a classic like Hendrick’s, or one of our newest local additions such as the Sheffield Dry Gin from True North. We then blend this with a dash of elderflower, some pear puree, a squeeze of fresh lemon and a splash of apple juice. Shaken and then finished with some fizz it’s the perfect pre-dinner (or post-dinner!) treat.

We’ve heard that you’ve got some exciting events coming up in the near future, what have we got to look forward to?
Wow, we have so much coming up! Firstly we have a refurbishment taking place on the 18-20 October. We’re making the place lighter and brighter but still keeping the relaxed and comfortable ambience. Following the refurbishment we’ll be changing our opening times so from 21 October we will be open from 10am Tuesday – Saturday for coffee, tea, cakes & patisseries and then serving lunch from 12pm followed by our usual evening service. We will also be opening on Sundays for delicious Yorkshire roasts. We’re really excited about our new adventure and we hope all the Sheffield folk will be too.

After that we have our Festive Menu coming up which will run from the 1-23 December and promises to be the ultimate Yorkshire Christmas feast. We’ve wrapped up our festive delights into an all-encompassing Christmas package to create the perfect Christmas lunch or dinner for work parties, family gatherings or an intimate occasion with your loved one.

Can’t wait to see you all down here supporting us as a local, independent restaurant in the heart of the Steel City!
